Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is the largest of the Canary Islands and is popular with visitors from all over Europe.  Millions of tourists take Gran Canaria holidays ever year.  The lively resorts such as Playa del Ingles attract a young, lively crowd whereas those looking for something a little more subdued will find that Maspalomas offers a quieter option.

Places to visit in Gran Canaria include the capital city of Las Palmas, which is a bustling city full of designer stores and has a very cosmopolitan feel to it.  There is also a monastery that sits on the hill which offers a commanding view over the Atlantic.  Las Palmas also has an excellent selection of Spanish restaurants which can sometimes be difficult to find in the tourist resorts in the south of the island.  Shoppers will also enjoy many of the unique boutiques located in Maspalomas, perfect if you are looking for an extra special gift for someone back home.

The beaches in Gran Canaria stretch for miles, and the dunes in Maspalomas are spectacular and akin to a scene from Lawrence of Arabia.

Gran Canaria is easy to get around as there are plenty of buses and taxis, and these tend to be quite inexpensive.

The hub of the nightlife scene is in Playa del Ingles where the Kasbah, Irish Centre and Yumbo Centre have bars and clubs to cater to all tastes.  The most popular bar in the Kasbah is Linikers, which is packed on weekends.  If you are interested in something a bit different, you can catch one of the many drag shows at the Yumbo where the very professional cross-dressing staff will gladly re-fill your drink.
