Dalaman, also known as the Turkish Riviera, is the perfect place to go if you are seeking a truly chilled out and relaxed holiday atmosphere. The region has grown in popularity over the last few years and attracts holidaymakers both young and old who flock there to enjoy almost guaranteed sun and endless sandy beaches. The scenery is truly stunning. Inland you will find snow tipped mountains and rivers flowing through the warm valleys. The region, however, is not just known for its scenery.
Many tourists go on holidays to Dalaman for the unique shopping experience that it provides. All over the region you will find markets and bazaars selling traditional Turkish produce, along with everything from coffee pots to carpets. For more commercial shopping, visitors should head to Marmaris, known as the "Pearl of the Med", for the quality and volume of freshwater pearls found in the town.
There are many options in terms of local nightlife. The town of Belek offers a quieter scene and has beautiful tapas and wine bars. However, if you are looking for something a little more upbeat, head to the neighbouring town of Lara Beach for the evening where bars and clubs are plentiful. You can dance the night away to the latest beats into the early hours.
Dalaman is also littered with historical sites of interest, and there are many bus tours around the region which will visit the more popular and interesting sites. It is advisable to book these trips early to avoid disappointment. Most of the tours will visit traditional villages and markets, as well Ottoman forts and the famous Roman baths.
